Drunk Driver Sentenced After Killing Elderly Woman in El Cajon

Katie Ellison of El Cajon faces 21 years to life in prison after she struck and killed a 55-year-old woman while under the influence. Deputy District Attorney Cally Bright gave the court some insight of what occurred that night prior to the accident.

Katie Ellison works as an automotive mechanic and that night after work she had a few drinks.  She consumed one vodka mixed drink, a shot of Fireball whiskey, and later four shots of sake.

Ellison then got in her Toyota Yaris and started to make her was to Lakeside. Officials stated that she was proceeding at a notable speed when she struck 55-year-old Texas residents Lorraine Kennedy and her husband, David Sandel. The collision impaled onto Katie’s windshield and tossed David over a hundred feet away. Kennedy’s son and his girlfriend.

Authorities at the hospital reported that Ellison’s blood alcohol level was at .12%. Ellison admitted that he had a prior DUI conviction in that past. Ellison has been charged with second-degree murder, driving under the influence, driving with a .08 blood-alcohol level causing injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter with impaired. Katie has pleaded not guilty and can face twenty-one years to life in prison.
